There are different types of Weapons in Fallout 4: Guns, Energy Rifles, Melee Bats and so on. The difference between them is that they deal different type of damage. Guns and Melee deal physical damage while Energy Rifles deal energy damage. There are about 50 base weapons and over 700 modifications for them!

Characteristics

Each weapon has several combat characteristics:

  • Damage – the amount of damage it deals to the enemy. Affects DPS.
  • Fire Rate – the “speed” of shots. Affects DPS.
  • Range – effective distance. Small range shotguns are useless when enemy is far from you.

These 3 characteristics affect weapon’s strength. You will hardly find a Pistol or Rifle with perfect damage, fire rate and range simultaneously. These characteristics vary from one type to another and there is a good balance.

In Fallout 4 Different weapon types are great for different situations. The choice depends on the distance between you and enemy.

  • Melee type is great for melee combat when enemy is near the player. For example modified Baseball Bat is great for face to face encounters.
  • If an enemy is not far shotgun is your best friend. The accuracy of a shotgun is not amazing but it is enough for small range combat. Lack of accuracy is compensated by exceptional damage shotgun deals. If you enter a house or a tunnel – shotgun is your best choice.
  • Different automatic rifles are great when an enemy is at the medium range. The accuracy of such weapon is better than shotguns have but the damage is lower. At the medium range accuracy is very important. Automatic rifles are great when you fight at the street or in the field.
  • If the enemy is far from the player – sniper rifle is the best choice. It has exceptional accuracy and allows to kill enemy fast. Very often your enemy will not even notice you because Sniper Rifle allows to kill with one shot.

Mods

Fallout 4 Crafting system allow player to modify weapons with Weapon Mods. These mods can be applied to different melee and ranged rifles, pistols and so on. They allow to increase different characteristics and unlock new combat possibilities. For example Plasma Pistol can be modified into Plasma Sniper Rifle or Automatic Plasma Rifle!

Scraping

Any weapon in the game can be Scraped for materials. These resources can be used for modifications or for building. That’s why you shouldn’t just drop useless items. They can be scraped and the resources you receive will definitely help you somewhere. Resources play very important role in the game and the more materials you have – the better.

Sieges

There are different types of siege weaponry that allow to protect your city from different bandits and raiders. Every player can build his own city in Fallout 4 and sometimes it will be attacked by raiders. If it’s not protected, it will be robed and your NPCs will be killed. There are different automatic turels and traps that can help you to defend the city. Most of them work automatically or require special NPC to operate. Sieges are very interesting part of the game and you shouldn’t miss them.
